The Traveller's Checklist

Several weeks before you plan to leave:

  • Study Angola and its laws and customs.

  • Check the climate and organize suitable clothing.

  • Learn some useful foreign phrases - It's not only polite but also the local people in Angola will respect you for it!

  • Consider your personal safety on your trip and check the latest travel advice (see links above).

  • See your doctor or Travel Health Centre and have any recommended vaccinations. (Be aware that some vaccinations can take up to six months to become fully effective.)

  • If you already have a passport, make sure it is valid for at least six months from the planned date of entry to another country.

  • If you need a new passport, apply for it in plenty of time.

  • If you have a disability, check the facilities of places you wish to visit in Angola.

  • Book your ticket(s) and arrange travel insurance.

  • Use the link above to find out what visas you need and obtain them with plenty of time to spare.

  • Check if any medication you normally carry is legal in Angola.

  • Double-check that you have adequate health and travel insurance.

  • Book a hotel - at least for the first night of your arrival.

  • Get an adaptor plug for electrical gear you plan to take.

  • Check what your Duty-Free allowance is if you plan on shopping abroad.

  • Organize your travellers cheques, credit cards, ATM cards and try to obtain some of the local foreign currency in cash - before you leave.

  • If you're taking your mobile phone, check with your telephone company if your GSM and SIM card will work in Angola.

In the days just prior to your departure:

  • Re-check the current travel advice for all countries you plan to visit.

  • Re-confirm your reservations with your travel agent or the airline.

  • Double-check your travel documents.

  • Leave a copy of your itinerary, visa, passport photo page, credit card & travellers cheque details with family member or a friend. Also pack your own copy of these documents separately from your handbag or wallet. Just in case.

  • Label all your suitcases and cabin luggage clearly with your name and contact details.

  • And finally - Have a safe and great trip!
